‘Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul.’ Trailer: Regina Hall & Sterling K. Brown Lead Focus Features’ Megachurch Comedy:
Focus Features has unveiled a trailer for its comedy Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul., starring Regina Hall (Nine Perfect Strangers) and Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), which is slated for release in theaters and on Peacock on September 2nd.
Writer-director Adamma Ebo’s feature directorial debut, based on her 2018 short of the same name, is a satire centered on Trinitie Childs (Hall)—the proud first lady of a Southern Baptist megachurch, who together with her husband Pastor Lee-Curtis Childs (Brown), once served a congregation in the tens of thousands. But after a scandal forces their church to temporarily close, Trinitie and Lee-Curtis must reopen their church and rebuild their congregation to make the biggest comeback that commodified religion has ever seen.
Honk for Jesus debuted to critical acclaim at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The film was executive produced by Monkeypaw’s Jordan Peele. Daniel Kaluuya and Amanda Crichlow produced via 59%, along with Adamma Ebo, Adanne Ebo, Pinky Promise’s Jessamine Burgum and Matthew Cooper, Rowan Riley, Kara Durrett, Hall and Brown. Pic is slated to open on the 2nd against Roadside Attractions’ family drama Gigi & Nate, IFC Films’ thriller Burial, Strand Releasing’s drama Peter von Kant and Blue Fox Entertainment’s Waiting for Bojangles. Its release by Focus follows those of films including Graham Moore’s crime drama The Outfit, Robert Eggers’ Viking revenge pic The Northman, Jim Archer’s comedy Brian and Charles and Downton Abbey: A New Era.
Other upcoming films from Focus include the period dramedy Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (July 15), B.J. Novak’s feature directorial debut Vengeance (July 29) and James Gray’s semi-autobiographical drama, Armageddon Time. Watch the trailer for Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. above.
