Katie Holmes to Write, Direct, and Star in ‘Rare Objects’ Movie Adaptation
Katie Holmes to Write, Direct, and Star in ‘Rare Objects’ Movie Adaptation:
Reported exclusively by Variety, Katie Holmes has signed on for the film adaptation of Kathleen Tessaro’s novel of the same name, Rare Objects. Along with starring in the project, she will also be directing, producing, and co-writing the screenplay. Phaedon Papadopoulos co-wrote the script and the film has started production in New York with Yale Productions and Holmes’ own Lafayette Pictures producing the movie. Holmes recently launched the production company back in June.
The film will also be produced by Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman, Mark Maxey, and Jesse Korman of Lafayette Pictures with Shaun Sanghani of SSS Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to be producing this timely and timeless story with Katie,” said Yale Levine and Beckerman. “It’s the perfect example of the kind of film that we want to make under our Lafayette Pictures banner, and Katie is such an extraordinary talent both in front of and behind the camera. We really can’t wait for everyone to see her vision with this film come to life.”
This is not the first time the Dawson’s Creek and Batman Begins star is in the director’s chair, as she has directed the 2016 film All We Had, which focused on a struggling mother trying to make a better life for her daughter. Lafayette and Yale also recently completed production on Alone Together starring Holmes, Jim Sturgess, Derek Luke, and Melissa Leo. This film is currently in post-production and follows two strangers in bad relationships that end up at the same upstate New York Airbnb.
Rare Objects is currently in production and, while there has been no official news on other cast members joining Holmes, you can read the full plot synopsis down below:
Rare Objects tells the story of a young woman with a traumatic past who seeks to rebuild her life when she begins working at an antique store. Receiving wisdom and guidance from the kind souls that own the ship, she gains a new level of confidence that will then be put to the test when those from her past draw her back into their world and challenge her fragile stability.
