First ‘Children Of The Corn’ Trailer Reimagines Stephen King’s Horror Classic:

The first red band trailer for Kurt Wimmer’s redo of Stephen King’s Children of the Corn has dropped and it is filled with bloody images, murderous children and, of course, ominous corn fields.

Based upon the short story by King as adapted by Wimmer, Children of the Corn follows a 12 year old girl in Nebraska who is possessed by a spirit in a dying cornfield. She recruits the other children in her small town to go on a bloody rampage and kill all the adults and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival.

The tale was originally brought to the big screen in 1984 in a version more faithful to King’s short story. It centered on an adult couple who wander into the town, discover the massacre and become the next adult targets of the pre-adult mob. It starred Linda Hamilton and Peter Horton starred.

Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice was released in 1992. Subsequent installments — there were at least five — went directly to video, and bore little to no narrative continuity, beginning with Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. In 2009, a second adaptation of the short story aired on the Syfy network. A third adaptation, titled somply Children of the Corn, was released in 2020.

Wimmer’s film was picked up last month by RLJE Films and AMC network’s horror streaming service Shudder. The movie will hit theaters on March 3 in an 18 day theatrical window before hitting demand and digital on March 21.

Pic stars Elena Kampouris (Before I Fall), Kate Moyer (Station Eleven), Callan Mulvey (The Gray Man) and Bruce Spence (The Road Warrior).

The movie was executive produced by Digital Domain and produced by Lucas Foster (Morbius), Doug Barry (FML) and John Baldecchi (Point Break). Its visual effects were all produced in-house by Digital Domain.
