Comic-Con HQ Series ‘Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest’ Set For Fall
As part of the expansion of Comic-Con’s ad-free subscription service Comic-Con HQ, the organization has announced that a new SVOD series starring Luke Skywalker himself is a go. Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest will see the Star Wars icon executive produce and star in the new series, which will feature the stories of passionate memorabilia collectors from all walks of fandom. Production on the show is set to begin in June once Hamill has completed filming on Star Wars VIII, with the series set to air on Comic-Con HQ this fall.
“I’ve been a collector all my life,” said Hamill. “This show is a natural outgrowth of that passion. Now I have an opportunity to collect other people’s collections! I can’t wait to see what’s out there and share it with the world. Collectibles are a living history of who and what we are, so we just might learn something… but there’s no doubt we’re going to have fun!”
Joining Hamill as executive producer on Mark Hamill’s Pop Culture Quest is friend and Return of the Jedi producer Howard Kazanjian, who executive produced Raiders of the Lost Ark and was a VP at Lucasfilm in the 1980s, along with Same Kind of Different as Me co-Producer Darren Moorman, and longtime collector and vintage show promoter Scott Kinney.
A partnership between Lionsgate and Comic-Con International, Comic-Con HQ will also be the home of Con Man, the comedy web series about sci-fi fandom created by Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion and PJ Haarsma. Further announcements of upcoming programming and partnerships for the service are planned over the coming months. Registration for a free extended trial membership is available now on the service’s official site for web browsers and android devices; the paid subscription service will rolled out over the summer with other devices to be compatible at that time.
Comic-Con International’s flagship event, San Diego Comic-Con, happens July 21-24.
