Everything Coming to Hulu and Disney+ in May 2024:
What’s the best destination for spring TV? IndieWire doesn’t have a definitive answer, but as we do every month we’ll help you weigh the options with a breakdown of everything coming to your favorite streaming platforms in May.
The month is a prime time to have Disney+, what with the ongoing and buzzy success of “X-Men 97” and upcoming “Marvel Studios’ Assembled” going behind the scenes of the reboot series. May is of course the month of Star Wars, and the House of Mouse will celebrate with “Star Wars: Tales of the Empire” on May 4. Disney is also home to BBC America’s “Doctor Who,” which returns for a highly-anticipated 14th season with Ncuti Gatwa stepping into the TARDIS as the new Doctor (he stepped into the role in December 2023 as part of the series’ beloved Christmas special tradition).
Meanwhile, Hulu will continue airing episodes of FX’s “The Veil” and gear up for FX’s “Welcome to Wrexham,” now in its fourth season. The streamer is also hyping up the original documentary “The Contestant,” about the man who spent 15 months isolated, starved, and naked in a tiny room while his movements were broadcast all over Japan. The streamer continues to be home for all your favorite next-day network shows, including ABC and FOX.
When Jason Parham first published the oral history of Black Twitter, his three-part “Wired” series ended with the 2021 insurrection. Now in the hands of executive producers Prentice Penny and Joie Jacoby, the history explodes on screen in motion and color, with gifs, comments, and videos — like Twitter itself come alive. Many of the original participants in Parham’s piece return to chart the rise of the internet’s hub for culture, commentary, and creativity, while Penny and Jacoby move the story forward into the present (including Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform). The three-part docuseries premieres in full on May 9.
