‘The Oath’ Renewed For Season 2 By Sony Crackle

deadline-hollywood-logo-oOn the heels of The Oath‘s successful debut last month, Sony Crackle has ordered a second season of the crime drama series created by Joe Halpin and executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. The news is being announced today at the network’s upfront presentation at Sony Headquarters in New York.

According to Crackle, The Oath is the platform’s most-watched new original series with the highest retention rate, episode to episode, of any Sony Crackle original.

Created by Halpin (Hawaii Five-0), a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy in South Central for 17 years, 12 of which as an undercover officer, The Oath explores a world of gangs made up of those sworn to protect and defend. It sheds light on corrupt and secret societies that are nearly impossible to join—only a select few make the cut—but once inside, members will do what they must to protect each other from enemies on the outside and from within their own ranks.

“Our audience has truly responded to this authentic, raw, and compelling series,” said Eric Berger, Chief Digital Officer, Sony Pictures Television Networks and General Manager, Sony Crackle. “Thanks to Joe, 50 Cent and our stellar ensemble and production team for bringing this powerful story to life. We look forward to taking the next step together.”

The Oath is executive produced by Jackson and his G-Unit Film & Television Inc., Dennis Kim, Todd Hoffman, Anne Clements, and Halpin who also serves as showrunner.

Season one of starred Sean Bean, Ryan Kwanten (also a producer), Cory Hardrict, Katrina Law, Arlen Escarpeta and J.J. Soria. Rounding out the ensemble cast are: Elisabeth Röhm, Michael Malarkey, Eve Mauro, Kwame Patterson and Linda Purl.

The Oath joins Crackle’s two returning live-action series, StartUp, renewed for a third season, and Snatch, picked up for a second.
