Triple Threat Clea DuVall & Cast On Their Unusual ‘Intervention’ – Sundance Studio

For Clea DuVall, the Sundance journey began in 1998 when she starred in How To Make The Cruelest Month and 18 years later, she has found herself on the other side of the lens with her directorial debut The Intervention, a film which playfully bends title-driven expectations. This morning Paramount Pictures acquired Intervention‘s worldwide rights for $2.5M.

DuVall stars and wrote The Intervention, an ensemble dramedy that centers on a weekend with four couples. The getaway takes an unexpected turn for one of them (The Avengers‘ Cobie Smulders and Jersey Boys’ Vincent Piazza) when it becomes evident the entire trip was orchestrated to host an intervention on their marriage. DuVall attracted an excellent cast with strong indie cred, many of whom are the filmmaker’s friends: Melanie Lynskey, Alia Shawkat, Natasha Lyonne, Ben Schwartz and Jason Ritter also star.

At the Tuesday afternoon premiere this week, DuVall was asked during the Q&A whether she had ever participated in a real-life intervention. “It did not go well,” she quipped.

Remaining screenings for The Intervention are tonight at the Redstone 1, Friday at The Grand Theatre, and Saturday afternoon at the Library Center Theatre.

Deadline’s Sundance production team includes Leica Camera USA, Rotolight, Ben Turok and Sydney Cahoon as camera operators, John Kreidler as DP and Sal Castellanos and Carson Culver as editors.
